A Davidic psalm. A song. HCSB
1 Praise is rightfully Yours,
God, in Zion;
vows to You will be fulfilled.
2 All humanity will come to You,
the One who hears prayer.
3 Iniquities overwhelm me;
only You can atone for our rebellions.
4 How happy is the one You choose
and bring near to live in Your courts!
We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
the holiness of Your temple.
5 You answer us in righteousness,
with awe-inspiring works,
God of our salvation,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the distant seas.
6 You establish the mountains by Your power,
robed with strength.
7 You silence the roar of the seas,
the roar of their waves,
and the tumult of the nations.
8 Those who live far away are awed by Your signs;
You make east and west shout for joy.
9 You visit the earth and water it abundantly,
enriching it greatly.
God’s stream is filled with water,
for You prepare the earth in this way,
providing people with grain.
10 You soften it with showers and bless its growth,
soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.
11 You crown the year with Your goodness;
Your ways overflow with plenty.
12 The wilderness pastures overflow,
and the hills are robed with joy.
13 The pastures are clothed with flocks
and the valleys covered with grain.
They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.
This Psalm speaks deep within my heart. I long to stay “satisfied with the goodness of (His) house!” I want to live the song “Better is One Day.” Today is a day I need such reminders as I am in a dreamy mood – dreaming of all the pretties I’d like to make for my home, in my home, of my home. Dreaming of all the places that overwhelm my senses. God gave me those dreams; I truly believe that. But He is also the Prince that makes all “ever afters” come true as they should be. As grand as I think my thoughts are, His are higher. As right as I hope my ways are, His are are righteous.
So, today it was in the washing of dishes, the dusting, and the pancake making that I found tastes of the good that He never withholds from those He loves. Simple. Nothing noteworthy of Pinterest or a Facebook status or even Instagram (though I’ve been known to take such simple pictures), but all were noted by my Jesus Who walked the life of a simple carpenter in a little town for around 30 years. He is teaching me to really love my simple life as He simply loves me, simply loving the little people, places, and things He has given. I am unworthy of such Riches He graces me with; most of the time I diminish their worth in my eye. He is faithful, patient, loving and gracious – He never tires of reminding me in kindness.
From this week’s journal:
When will this smile I pray for break the crust off this heart and face to reveal Your love, kindness, and joy? Oh, I pray it will be soon! I know now that it will come from more stripping off of this world so that You may be known more fully. In You there is fullness of joy – empty me of all else so that I may have this full…I’m not very good at balancing my desires of earthly longings with spiritual ones – I think that’s just it. I was never meant to balance the earth and the spiritual. I was created for eternity – to fix my eyes on Jesus…The “balance” is an unnecessary yoke – a burden You want us free from. To live “unbalanced” – that is the Way! (3/4)
(Concerning motherhood and my children…) Please fill me with Your Spirit and fill in these gaps and/or gaping holes I am leaving behind! They are eternal beings with eternal purposes – don’t let me hinder them! (3/5)
Relief! Refresh! Flood over…us! I pray, my Jesus, our Savior, our Living Water! (3/8)
