“On the very day I call to you for help, my enemies will retreat. This I know, God is on my side. O God, I praise your word. Yes, LORD, I praise your word…I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help…So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light. (Ps. 56:9-10, 12-13)

“My heart is confident in you, O God, no wonder I can sing your praises! Wake up, my soul! … I will waken the dawn with my song. I will thank you, Lord, in front of all the people… (Ps. 57:7-9)

“…in loneliness…in times of downheartedness and tiredness and sadness, always always He is near. He does comfort if we let Him…Through all circumstances, outside, inside, He can keep me close.” (~Amy Carmichael in A Chance to Die)

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

In the midst of renovating the house, there is always (ALWAYS!) a renovation of the heart and soul. And just like any reno, it gets uglier before it gets pretty. And just like any reno, there are set backs and stand stills and frustrations and tears and new mercies and hopes for every morning. And just like any reno, you need help! And just like any reno, you have to keep on with some sort of semblance of daily life…like it does not all just stop for you to finish up! The world keeps on spinning and you have to keep on waking, walking, talking, smiling, seeking forgiveness, and sleeping.

The mess is always what overwhelms me, whether it’s a physical one or a spiritual one. Yet, here’s the truth, it never overwhelms Him Who overcame! Today’s truth is yesterday’s truth: I can’t, He can! (And I have a sneaky suspicion, that He delights in that very fact.)

“…the LORD was my support. He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He DELIGHTED in me.” (Ps. 18:16-19)
